OHB Digital Connect Successfully Completes the Refurbishment of Military Ground Stations
Bremen/Gerolstein, June 25, 2026. OHB Digital Connect GmbH , a subsidiary of the technology and aerospace group OHB SE, has successfully completed the refurbishment of military ground stations on behalf of the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology, and Use of the German Armed Forces (BAAINBw).
As part of the overall project, the existing technology used in the mobile ground stations was gradually replaced with modern satellite communications hardware for the SATCOMBw system. This allowed the systems to be modernized in stages and subsequently returned to the Bundeswehr.
With the handover of the final lot—consisting of four refurbished ground stations—the project has now been successfully completed during a closing ceremony at the Eifelkaserne in Gerolstein.
At the time the contract was awarded, Bremen-based OHB Digital Connect had expanded its capabilities through a merger with MT Mechatronics, a Mainz-based antenna manufacturer that has since also become part of the OHB Group. The contract to refurbish the ground stations thus marked the beginning of more intensive cross-site collaboration.
As part of the project, the strengths of the two companies were combined: This made it possible to successfully modernize not only the ground stations but also their training facilities and the associated training sites.
