From radio telescope to deep space antenna
OHB Digital Connect is involved in the conversion of Europe's third-largest scientific radio telescope, the Sardinia Radio Telescope near Cagliari in Sardinia, which was originally planned and built by MT Mechatronics GmbH, the predecessor company of OHB Digital Connect, for the Italian Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica. With a main mirror diameter of 64 meters, the telescope receives radio frequency radiation from the depths of space and is part of the European network for Very Long Baseline Interferometry, with commissioning taking place in 2012.
