OHB Digital Connect deepens AI and image processing expertise in concept study for the German Armed Forces

Automated processes to accelerate workflows and improve quality of results

Koblenz/Bremen, September 12, 2024 - OHB Digital Connect GmbH, a subsidiary of the German space and technology group OHB SE, has been commissioned by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) in Koblenz to develop operational concepts for impact reconnaissance using (partially) automated processes.

The concept study focuses on the use of modern methods to obtain information, from the evaluation of sensor data to the assessment of the analysis results. Possible methods of image processing are to be extended by artificial intelligence in order to realize physical, functional and impact analyses. The aim is to create an initial system concept for the optimization of situation analyses and thus to automate and accelerate the clarification of effects.

"Solving this task with camera data from aircraft is a necessity for the Bundeswehr. This helps to maintain an overview and avoid unnecessary efforts in target engagement," explains project manager Susanne Heimberger. "It is a great opportunity for OHB Digital Connect to apply its expertise in the areas of sensors and cameras, image processing and artificial intelligence."

OHB Digital Connect is the main contractor in charge of the study. The main focus of the project is the work package for defining analysis methods, for which OHB is responsible. The project partners and subcontractors include ESG, Fraunhofer FHR, Fraunhofer IOSB and IABG.
